Getting started
What is Smaraan?
Smaraan helps you start a spiritual journey with small steps. You choose your own pace for reading the Bhagavad Gita, meditating and doing Jaap, and Smaraan turns it into a short plan for each day. Finish the day's steps and you are on track. It is available on Android and as a Chrome extension. The idea is Pause, Pray, Proceed.
How does Smaraan work day to day?
You set up your plan once. After that, Smaraan gives you a short list of tasks for the day, based on the pace you chose for the Gita, your meditation and your Jaap. Finish them and your day is marked complete. Most people need only a few minutes.
How long does setup take?
About 2 minutes. You choose how many days you want to take to finish the Gita, how much you want to meditate, and how many Jaap you want to do each day. You can skip any step and come back later, and you can see your plan before you create an account.
Which scriptures and traditions does Smaraan use?
Smaraan is built around Hindu scriptures. Content comes from the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads, along with mantras and traditional meditation practices. Each Sanskrit verse comes with a translation in plain, everyday language.
Which languages does it support?
English and Hindi. You choose during setup and can switch any time. Sanskrit verses are always shown in Devanagari, with the translation in the language you picked.
Is Smaraan available on iPhone?
Not yet. Smaraan is available on Android and as a Chrome extension. If you use an iPhone, the Chrome extension on your laptop is the way to start today.
Your plan and pace
How do I choose my pace?
During setup you decide three things: in how many days you want to complete the Bhagavad Gita, how much meditation you want to do, and how many Jaap you want to do each day. Smaraan turns this into a small daily plan. For example, finishing the Gita's 700 verses in 100 days works out to about 7 verses a day.
Can I change my pace later?
Yes, any time. If your routine gets busier or you want to go deeper, change the number of days, your meditation time or your Jaap target, and your daily tasks will follow. Your place in the Gita is saved.
What if I fall behind my pace?
Nothing is lost. Your place in the Gita and your saved plan stay as they are. You can carry on, or change your pace to something that fits your life right now. A small plan that you keep up is better than a big one you leave.
What tasks do I complete each day?
Your daily plan can include your Bhagavad Gita verses, your Jaap, a guided meditation and a Chalisa. You can also open a mood-based shloka whenever you want one. You pick what goes into your plan during setup, and you can change it whenever your routine changes.
Does Smaraan include the whole Bhagavad Gita?
Yes. All 18 chapters and about 700 verses, each with the Sanskrit original, transliteration, and Hindi and English translation. You choose a pace, for example a few verses a day, and Smaraan keeps your place.
What is the Jaap counter?
A digital mala for mantra repetition. Choose a mantra such as Om Namah Shivaya, Hare Krishna or Gayatri, then tap to count. Your phone gives light haptic feedback on each tap. The Jaap screen is always ad-free.
What kinds of meditation are included?
Hindu meditation practices including Trataka, Pranayama, Chakra meditation and Mantra dhyan. You can choose the length and tradition that suits you, and practise without leaving the app.
What is the Chalisa feature?
Chalisa are devotional hymns of about forty verses. Smaraan includes the Hanuman Chalisa, Shiva Chalisa and Durga Chalisa, so you can read and recite the one you feel closest to. Each is shown in Devanagari with a translation in the language you picked.
What does the calendar show?
Two things. It shows Hindu festivals and important days, so you know what is coming. It also shows your own progress, with the days you completed your plan marked off, so you can see your journey over the weeks.
What are mood-based shlokas?
You tell Smaraan how you feel, for example anxious, grateful, tired or sad. It shows a Sanskrit verse chosen for that state, with a short line on why it fits. The goal is a verse that feels relevant to you right now, not a random one.
Are the translations easy to understand?
That is the aim. Translations are written the way a friend would explain a verse, in everyday language, without heavy philosophical terms. You can always see the Sanskrit alongside.
Streaks and progress
What is a streak?
A streak counts the days in a row that you complete your daily plan. Your Jaap progress is shown on a japa mala, so you can see your practice growing bead by bead.
What happens if I miss a day?
Your streak starts again from day one. Missing a day does not affect your plan, your place in the Gita or anything else you have saved. You can pick up the next morning.
Will my progress sync between my phone and my laptop?
Yes. Sign in with the same account on the Android app and the Chrome extension, and your streak, plan and place in the Gita stay in step.
Reminders and app prayers
Do I have to allow prayers inside other apps?
No. It is optional. If you like, Smaraan can show a short prayer before you open apps such as WhatsApp or Instagram, as a gentle pause. Your daily plan works the same whether this is on or off.
Why does the Android app ask for the Accessibility permission?
Only the optional prayer-before-apps feature needs it. Android lets an app know that another app has been opened through this permission, and Smaraan uses it for that one purpose. You will see a clear explanation before you are asked to turn it on, and you can use the rest of Smaraan without it.
How do I stop the prayer for a particular app?
Open Smaraan and remove that app from your list. The prayer will stop appearing for it straight away. You can also turn the feature off completely.
The prayer is not appearing before my apps. What should I check?
First, make sure the Accessibility permission for Smaraan is still on, because some phones switch it off after a restart or when battery saver is active. Second, check that the app you opened is on your list. If it still does not show, write to support@smaraan.com with your phone model and Android version and we will help.
What does the Chrome extension do?
It shows a shloka, a mantra or a Gita verse when you open a new tab, so you can pause for a moment during work. It also gives you quick access to Jaap, the Gita, meditation and mood-based shlokas from the extension popup.
Pricing and plans
Is Smaraan free?
Yes, there is a free plan so you can start your daily practice and see if it suits you. The Android app shows ads on the free plan, and Smaraan Plus removes them. Jaap screens are always ad-free.
What does the paid plan cost?
Smaraan Plus is ₹149 per month or ₹999 per year. The yearly plan works out to a little over ₹83 a month. Plus removes ads, and one subscription covers both Android and Chrome.
Do I need separate subscriptions for Android and Chrome?
No. One subscription covers both. Subscribe on either platform and it applies to the other when you sign in with the same account.
How do I cancel my subscription?
If you subscribed on Android, open Google Play, go to Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and cancel Smaraan there. If you subscribed on the web or in Chrome, write to support@smaraan.com and we will cancel it for you.

Do I need an account to try Smaraan?
