Privacy Policy

1. What we collect
Smaraan collects only the minimum information needed to provide the app's core features.
- Account information — your name and email address when you create an account or sign in with Google
- Prayer streak and progress — how many consecutive days you've used the app, which practices you've completed
- App preferences — your chosen deity, language (English/Hindi), notification settings, and which apps trigger the prayer overlay
- Subscription status — whether you are on the free or premium plan, managed via RevenueCat
- Anonymous usage data — which features you use, how often, and general app performance — to help us improve the app. This data is never tied to your identity.
2. What we do NOT collect
🔒 We do not read, record, or transmit the content of any app on your phone — ever.
- We do not read your messages, emails, or notifications
- We do not track which websites you visit
- We do not collect your location
- We do not record audio or access your camera
- We do not sell your data to advertisers or any third party
- We do not build profiles for targeted advertising
3. Accessibility Service — what it does and doesn't do
Smaraan uses Android's Accessibility Service to detect when you unlock your phone and open a chosen app. This is the only technical way to show a prayer overlay before an app opens.
What the Accessibility Service does: It listens for app-open events for the specific apps you selected during setup. When one of those apps opens, Smaraan shows the prayer screen on top.
What it does NOT do: It does not read the content of those apps. It does not capture text, passwords, messages, or any screen content. It does not run when your phone is idle. It activates only for the event of opening a selected app — nothing else.
You can disable or revoke this permission at any time from your Android Settings → Accessibility → Smaraan.
4. How we use your data
- To show you shlokas and prayers matched to your mood and deity preference
- To maintain your prayer streak across the Android app and Chrome extension
- To send you one daily prayer notification (only if you opted in)
- To process your subscription payment via RevenueCat
- To improve app performance and fix bugs using anonymous usage analytics
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with marketers.
5. Third-party services we use
- Firebase (Google) — user authentication, streak storage, push notifications
- Supabase — shloka and scripture content database
- RevenueCat — subscription billing and management
- Mixpanel — anonymous usage analytics
Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing them if you have concerns about how they handle data.
6. Children's privacy
Smaraan is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Withdraw consent for data processing at any time
- Port your data in a readable format
